The Barb McDowell Memorial Fund was established on June 2, 1999 in recognition of Barb McDowell. Barb served from 1981 through 2000 as Executive Assistant of the JCDDRB and NextStep for Life, Inc. Funds from the Barb McDowell Memorial Fund are available to individuals served by Developmental Disability Advocates and Department of Mental Health Service Coordination through an application and approval process.
In FY22 more than $1,900 in unique needs were funded. Since 1999, more than $78,000 of financial assistance has been provided to individuals in Jefferson County for items or services that cannot be met through other funding sources.
JCDDRB has since changed its name to Developmental Disability Advocates and continues to manage the fund in honor and memory of Barb McDowell.
